IPL Sun Damage Removal Aftercare
Proper preparation and aftercare are essential to get the best results from your IPL Skin Correction treatment and to keep your skin safe and comfortable throughout the process.
Prior to Treatment
1. Please wear 30+ sunscreen on treatment area during this time. No tanning for 6 weeks prior to treatment.
2. Please cease using AHA's or retinoids on the area 1 week prior to your treatment.
3. Begin any pre-treatment lotions 2 weeks prior to your treatment (as advised by your practitioner).
4. No fake tan or bronzing products to be used on the area to be treated 10 days prior to your treatment.
On the Day
1. If possible, do not wear makeup, bronzer or tinted moisturiser to your appointment.
2. Organize to be able to go straight home after your treatment.
What to Expect After Treatment
The area will feel like mild sunburn. This feeling can last from a few minutes to the rest of the day. Swelling can occur in the area, especially when treating the face and/or capillaries — it will resolve in 24 to 48 hours; sleeping elevated on extra pillows can assist. A dark crusting is expected on the skin when doing photo rejuvenation and pigment treatments — this will come off with your normal skin cell turnover in approximately 10 to 14 days.
1. Use a Cool Compress - We advise the use of a cool compress, aloe gel or soothing cream to the area.
2. Apply Sunscreen - Please apply 30+ sunscreen to the area when in daylight, and avoid exposing the area to the sun for the duration of treatments.
3. Sleep Elevated if Needed - If swelling occurs (especially on the face or over capillaries), sleeping elevated on extra pillows can help.
4. Resume Normal Routine - You can resume your normal skincare regime and wear makeup the next day.
1. Avoid Hot Water and Exercise - Do not wash the area in hot water or do strenuous exercise for the rest of the day.
2. Do Not Pick - Do not pick at dark crusting or blisters. If a blister occurs, use antiseptic gel—it will self-resolve and will not leave any permanent marks.
