Cosmetic Tattoo Aftercare
Cosmetic tattoo aftercare varies slightly depending on the area treated. Please follow the specific instructions below for your treatment area to ensure proper healing and the best results.
Eyebrows
1. To reduce swelling, lie down 1/2 - 1 hour if possible. A slight swelling will last around 24 hours.
2. 1st hour - use wet pads constantly to blot blood and clear fluid (plasma).
3. 2nd hour - blot with wet pads occasionally. A bit of Bepanthen cream (supplied) is fine.
4. 3rd hour - dab with dry tissue.
5. For 1 week, use Bepanthen cream 4x a day - more often is not necessary.
6. Apply cream with a dab and rolling motion as instructed. Be gentle.
7. Don't rub or scratch your eyebrows. Be careful not to knock off flakes or crust to avoid peeling colour off underneath. No picking - let the scales fall off naturally!
8. Do not get eyebrows wet for a week or use makeup on them. Keep them dry.
9. Colours will begin to lighten in around 7 days and allow 2-4 weeks before you see the real colour. To avoid lightening the tattoo, use sunglasses and avoid contact with glycolic acid, fruit peels or makeup. Basically, keep ALL products off it!
Eyeliner
1. To reduce swelling, sit (or recline at a 45 degree angle) for around 1/2 - 1 hour if possible. Swelling is variable person to person, but general puffiness lasts around 24 hours. Some redness around eyeliner can occur.
2. Do not smile for 2-3 hours to avoid bruising and/or tattoo ink leaching.
3. 1st hour - use wet pads constantly for cooling and comfort.
4. Apply cream on Q-tip (provided) once then throw it away.
5. Do not get the eyeliner/s wet for a week or use makeup. Keep them dry.
6. Don't rub or scratch your eyeliner. Be careful not to knock off flakes or crust to avoid peeling colour off underneath. No picking - let the scales fall off naturally!
7. Allow 2-4 weeks before you will see the real colour.
Lips
1. Lips will be swollen for several days, & slightly swollen for 2 weeks. Arnica pills can help. It will take 4-6 weeks before you see the real colour.
2. After treatment, your lips will bleed all day, so pat the lips constantly. You can also dab with a dry tissue gently.
3. Do not use ice directly on the lips. Put ice in with your wet pads to cool them down.
4. The Bepanthen cream provided will act as lubricator (lip gloss) for the whole week. Use constantly. Keep moist as they will become very dry, and begin to flake off after 3-7 days.
5. Don't rub or scratch your lips. Be careful not to knock off flakes to crust to avoid peeling colour off underneath.
6. Cold sores - Use cold sore cream (Zovirax) in addition to the Bepanthen. L-Lysine tablets should be continued for several weeks.
At Night
If you are a restless sleeper or bury your face in your pillow, a medium thickness towel draped around your neck can help prevent this. Travel pillows are also useful.
1. Follow Area-Specific Care - Apply Bepanthen cream as instructed for your treated area (eyebrows, eyeliner, or lips), and keep the area dry and clean during the healing period.
